The history of the port
Ile Rousse, inhabited since the time of the ancient Romans, was (and still is) made particularly fascinating by the red color of the rocks to which it owes its name.
In 1758 Pasquale Paoli, during the war of independence from Genoa, build a real port with ramparts in order to counter the traffic between Calvì and Genoa.
In spite of the short history of this city, in its old town you can still find several ancient palaces and a tower. The village is easily accessible on foot or with a small train that leads from the old town to the lighthouse of the island of Stone.
