Despite the conditions in which the port was poured in a short time to provide for the needs of the Piedmont hinterland, in recent years there was an industrial development that led to the increase of port traffic. All this necessitated a widening of the port: it felt the need for general warehouses and a new customs.
In the last ten years, the docks closest to the city have been dedicated to new purposes such as pleasure boating, shipbuilding and cruises, while for the goods have been devoted more distant stopovers from the center because they have the deeper seabed.
